Grok Bot started handing some of its work to Claude in October. This week some users ran out of their weekly limit days early, and Musk blamed the cost.

Grok Bot now uses Claude, MidJourney and Suno
Musk posted on X that SpaceX will "use the best back end model for any given task", and named those three. He didn't say which jobs go where.
This week
Users ran out of their weekly limit days early
Musk's reply on X: "The cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue." No new limits, prices or dates yet, TechCrunch and The Next Web report.
Is it just a Claude wrapper?
Nothing we've read says so
Musk says it picks a model for each job. The Next Web reports it will "no longer run only on SpaceX's own AI models", which suggests its own models still do some of the work.
Who it affects
Anyone paying a flat monthly fee for an AI agent
Agents do a lot of work in the background, and that's expensive to run. Grok Bot users only found out the limits had tightened when they hit them.
